The Harambee House, Inc./Citizens for Environmental Justice's (HH/CFEJ) Worker Education and Job Training Program (WEJTP) is a labor of love and collective action. Funded by the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) as part of a community-university collaborative with Dr. Robert Bullard of the Environmental Justice Resource Center at Clark Atlanta University (GA); Dr. Beverly Wright of the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice at Dillard University (LA); and Dr. Mildred McClain of the Harambee House, Inc./Citizens for Environmental Justice (GA), the Worker Education and Job Training Program (WEJTP) thrives because of the continued commitment of a group of Savannah-based business, community and governmental partners.

The City of Savannah graciously designated St. Pius X Family Resource Center (FRC) as the official training facility for HH/CFEJ’s Worker Education and Job Training Program (WEJTP). Local nonprofits like the FRC along with businesses like Savannah Abatement make it possible for HH/CFEJ’s Worker Education and Job Training Program (WEJTP) to provide consistent job and life skills training to Chatham County residents.

In existence since 2006, HH/CFEJ's WEJTP continues to provide culturally-competent, small group learning experiences for adult men and women (aged 18 and older) interested in obtaining environmental remediation training.
  • A total of 82 WEJTP graduates have earned certifications in basic construction, HazMat, lead abatement, mold remediation, OSHA and asbestos removal; and
  • 80% of WEJTP graduates are still employed.
